Rhoda Grant : "Examination of Planning Process for Aviemore application needed to restore public confidence "

Rhoda Grant, Highlands and Islands Labour MSP, has called on the Scottish Parliamentary Committee responsible for planning to examine the processes for an Aviemore application in bid to restore public confidence.

In issuing all her own correspondence to the Local Government and Communities Committee Mrs Grant said that contentious press coverage over SNP Ministers’ roles behind the scenes of the application could only hamper developments across Scotland.

“I am happy to issue all my letters and e-mails in relation to this issue in which, in a bid to ensure due process was followed, I contacted various bodies to ensure that any relevant documentation was made available.  The merit of the application is certainly not the matter in question here, but whether there was any inappropriate intervention made in the process leading up to the application’s consideration by the National Park Authority,” said Mrs Grant.

“For my part – it is my duty as an elected representative to represent my constituents and I feel I acted in good faith.  I would follow the same process again if faced with a similar situation,” she said.

“It is unacceptable that our planning process is undermined and the only action I feel would restore confidence is a thorough examination by the Local Government Committee,” she added.
