Commenting on the news that the deadline for CAP payments for farmers has been extended to 15 October, Scottish Labour Rural Economy spokesperson Rhoda Grant said:
“Given the complete mess the SNP have made of CAP payments this is a welcome decision from the EU commissioner, and will save the Scottish taxpayer from funding sanctions.
“At a time when our public services are already facing hundreds of millions of pounds of cuts, huge fines potentially paid out of the public purse are the last thing Scotland needs.
“I will be writing to SNP Minister Fergus Ewing seeking confirmation, however, that the Government’s first priority remains ensuring that farmers and crofters receive their money by the end of June as previously stated.”
