Dunbar Hospital : MSP asks health board to discuss proposals with Thurso councils

1 April 2010

Highlands and Islands MSP Rhoda Grant has written to NHS Highland to ask if Thurso Community Council and the local Trades Council can join a group discussing proposed changes at Dunbar Hospital.

She wants representatives from both bodies to be part of a Stakeholder group including GPs, Social Work, nursing staff, voluntary organisations, allied health professionals, the Scottish Health Council and the patient representative from the Community Health partnership Committee.
Mrs Grant has previously expressed concern about proposals which could end round- the-clock emergency cover at the hospital.

She has also said she is concerned about plans to drop inpatient beds at the cottage hospital.

The proposals are among the measures being proposed to help ease NHS Highland’s cash crisis in the coming year.

Rhoda Grant said: "I want to ensure the community is consulted properly before any changes are made and to this end I believe it is vital that representatives from Thurso Community Council and the local Trades Council sit on the Stakeholder group."
