Stornoway Black Pudding Campaigner calls for Better Measures to Protect Scottish Food
08 September 2009
Stornoway Black Pudding campaigner Rhoda Grant, MSP, says food producers in
Scotland need better support from the Scottish Government to protect their
products.
Responding to the Scottish Government's announcement today on Protected Food
Name (PFN) status, Rhoda Grant, Highlands and Islands MSP, said:
"Protected status is crucial in helping food producers like the Stornoway
butchers get a bigger slice of the market and to ensure their quality products
are not copied elsewhere.
"It is not enough for the government to offer a one off event for producers
later this year to share ideas - they need more than a talking shop.
"I know from my involvement in the campaign to safeguard the Stornoway Black
Pudding that what is needed is administrative support for food producers so that
they can get better access to advice when they need it."
