Machrihanish Offshore Windfarm 29 July 2010
Highlands and Islands MSP Rhoda Grant has spent the last three weeks out and about in the Highlands and Islands meeting constituents, listening to their concerns and taking on board individual and community issues in the hope that she will be able to assist in some way and bring such matters to a sound conclusion. On Wednesday 21 July 2010 Mrs Grant visited Oban. During her visit she held a surgery at The Caledonian Hotel and listened to the concerns of some constituents about the Scottish and Southern Wind Farm Development between Macrahanish and Tiree. Mrs Grant said, " It appears to me that the community need to be fully involved and consulted on this project. "I am instinctively pro-wind farms, on and off-shore. "However tourism is the lifeblood of this area and I think I and the community remain to be convinced that this will not impact on that industry. "If following that consultation the community agree the development then those communities affected must benefit though a share of the development. "I would imagine that there would require to be at least one community trust - maybe several given the geographic spread of the communities involved." The proposals to develop a windfarm 3km from the Kintyre coast will see approximately 126 turbines built.
